Jean-Michel Frank (1895 – 1941) est un décorateur et designer français. Marqué par des tragédies familiales, Jean-Michel Frank se tourne vers le monde intellectuel et artistique parisien. Ami de Louis Aragon, il s’improvisera décorateur pour celui-ci. Son style épuré et minimaliste attire les personnalités éprises de modernisme. Il surprend par son rejet du superflu, par la simplicité légère de ses compositions et par l’utilisation de matières originales tel que le parchemin, le galuchat ou encore le gypse. Devenu un véritable professionnel de la décoration, il s’associe avec des artistes de renom tels Alberto Giacometti ou Christian Berard, influences précieuses dans la reconnaissance de son oeuvre.
Jean-Michel Frank (1895 – 1941) is a French decorator and designer. Affected by family tragedies, Jean-Michel Frank turned to the Parisian intellectual and artistic world. Friend of Louis Aragon, he improvised himself as an interior decorator for him. His pure, minimalist style attracted modernist personalities. He amazed his contemporaries with his rejection of unnecessary details, with the simplicity of his compositions and by the use of unusual materials such as parchment, shagreen or gypsum. As he became a professional interior decorator, he collaborated with renowned artists such as Alberto Giacometti or Christian Berard, who were precious influencers in the recognition of his work.
